Hi Todd,
This thread is a lifesaver, so basically I have the exact same problem you described on the TX-NR646. So this is what happened exactly.
I was playing some songs on Bluetooth, when suddenly the amplifier off itself. I removed the plug for a few mins and tried to see if it works. And, as usual everything worked fine, HDMI, Optical, Analog, all except "NET" and "Bluetooth", Whenever I use either of these inputs, it just says "Now Initializing" and stays stuck like that. I searched google, and some people said that doing a Firmware update fixed it. So obviously because USB wasn't working, I decided to update through Wi-Fi. And it went until MPU Updating, while it was at 70%, it suddenly stopped and an error code came (9-50).
I checked the manual for what to do in case of this code and it was in the "Other" section and the manual said to turn off the amp and restart the update. Before I could turn off the amp, a relay clicked and it says "Recovery:NET" and that's it. Its been like that ever since, nothing at all works now. Not even the power button responds, the only thing happens is that sometimes it switches to "Recovery:USB" and that's it.
So I contacted multiple Onkyo showrooms, and as it was they all asked me to contact the place I bought it from. I bought it from Jeddah "aDawliah" showroom. Long story short, the dealer I brought from doesn't respond and I am in a different country now (it doesn't have onkyo dealers or support). Now, the only solution I have left is what you said, and I might be able to have it done.
It would be very helpful though if you could explain the process and how its done. Also I don't have the firmware either.
Thanks.

Hi there With the great help in this post I managed to flash the ARM NAND on my TX-NR1009 and get the receiver working. After that I wanted to do a general update to the latest firmware, which killed the DSP2, now not booting up anymore. Would there be anybody who could provide me an image of the DSP2 EEPROM firmware as .bin file? If not TX-NR 1009, 709 or 809 image would also do it. i woulld really appreciate your help on that, this receiver is driving me nuts.... Thanks guys Airfranz

Sorry to dig this old post. I'm trying to hook on a USB SERIAL adapter to see the actual boot logs. However, I can only see something like the following. Any ideas how I can get the full linux boot log?
