Hello everybody, my first time here and I hope somebody has a bit of insight for my issue. I picked myself up a Pioneer Vsx-d1 receiver with the hopes that it needed a new fuse or something along those lines, but is not the case.... When I first plugged it in, it would just immediately click followed by another relay approx. 2-3 seconds after and then that was followed immediately by a final click. After downloading the service manual I discovered a reset was available. I did the reset and now I get power to the standby light only and until I actually push the power button there are no relays being activated. When power button is pushed I get the initial click followed by a second approx 2-3 seconds after than that is all. The main display doesn't light up , but the direct mode button and another below remain lit. The speaker selector seems to also work normally as when I change from A to B channel the relays will click. I have checked all the fuses and they are good. I checked the unit out with speakers and a source to be sure that possibly it was working but with a dead display, but I get no sound whatsoever. I also had tried pulling some boards out one at a time to see if I could change behavior but no difference.... That's about as far as I got after realizing the daunting task of getting to the power supply to check voltages, hoping maybe someone has a better approach?? Thanks for reading..

Have you ever done any electronics testing or repairs before?

Yes, but mostly 2 channel amps/receivers tho... I have tools and knowledge. Never tackled an AV unit before.....

I'll look over schematics tomorrow and make suggestion.

While I wait I will proceed and try to test all output transistors.

While I wait I will proceed and try to test all output transistors. If those outputs test ok then you are going to have to start with testing source voltages. Do you know how to read the schematics to know where to test them at?

I can read schematics, what voltages are you referring to as source?? Power supply or B+/- rails? BTW outputs seem good for the five sets.....

OK, are familiar with this unit?? Getting to the power supply is near impossible ...

That is the process of looking at the schematics and trying to find a location to test at when you cannot get at the board itself. For example, on page 104 of the service manual I am using, is the power supply board. And when looking at connector CN29 I see I can test for +5v, -5v and -Vf dp which should be app. -29.5v. Now if I still cannot test at that connector with the unit powered on then I would follow that harness and see if I can test for those voltages at the other end of it.

ok, i get ya ..... I will look and see what i can trace the voltage to. i was looking at the connectors attaching some boards in the unit and i was not sure how they would be removed? any advise regarding this?? It would be nice to make a tad bit of room in here!

It is hard for me to be certain with that picture but they look like a 2 piece connector and when you push down on the top piece it releases the wire harness. But again, I cannot be certain. Try it and let me know if it does not work.
