That ic is not listed as a firmware chip. Of course that also means you should be able to just change it.

ACCORDING TO LAST COMMUNICATION WITH FM TJMOTTER ITS THE 2ND DSP AS I ALREADY HAVE TRIED CHANGING NAND CHIP SOURCED FROM TJMOTTER AND IT RESULTED IN SAME ERROR

Good to hear. Nice work. It would also be nice if one of you guys would write up a tutorial on this procedure and I could sticky it.

The sad thing about this is that Onkyo actually built the mechanism to flash this chip directly from DSP1 but they removed the part from production. They show an inverter on the schematic that ties the two together but I suspect they removed it to save cost. Once we started debugging this it became obvious that DSP2 wasn't booting but with this chip removed, the only way to flash this chip (in circuit) would be through DSP2. This is a really poorly thought out design because if DSP2 couldn't boot, a user could never update the firmware for it. I pulled a good IC off a board, made a copy of the code and sent it to annapl. Fortunately he was able to get access to a NOR programmer to update the software.

So I would assume then if someone were to purchase a number of these ic's new and then program them with your bin and then make them available for sale that this would be great option?

I will caution that this is probably going to be much bigger than you expect ;-). There are up to 10 different subsystems each with their own firmware within an Onkyo Receiver. They tend to fall into 3 different categories with respect to how you program them so I will need a bit of time to pull this together.

So I would assume then if someone were to purchase a number of these ic's new and then program them with your bin and then make them available for sale that this would be great option? My fear on this example is that I cant imagine that it happens very often. DSP1 firmware issues are very common because the NAND is configured to act as a hard drive so if the DSP fails (which is all too common), it often corrupts the firmware. Unfortunately, this is also the one that is most difficult to fix because this firmware also hosts the MAC address for the Network function meaning that every single Receiver (even two identical models) has a custom firmware build on it. Not impossible to fix but much more complicated. DSP2 and most of the others don't usually fail.
FWIW, I have seen 4 causes of firmware corruption:
1) worn out DSP1 causes firmware corruption on the NAND 2) worn out or damaged NAND starts to generate too many errors and stops working
3) interrupted firmware update - not sure if this is what happened to this unit but I have seen it on others. This can affect any subsystem 4) botched firmware update-I tried to downgrade an NR3008 board to an NR3007 board and it screwed up the MAIN CPU firmware AND the VMPU firmware. Got them both fixed but it was a PITA
3) SR607's have a unique issue where the OSD firmware gets erased. Seems Onkyo had two sources for voltage regulators and one of them goes into oscillation when the capacitors degrade. Unfortunately, this oscillation can be interpreted by the VMPU as a control code to erase the firmware.

i had only meagre idea of what electronics is and tjmotter explained everything like teaching to a baby and he was very helpful the funny part is he asked me about if i had access to NAND PROGRAMMER i thought it was a person (programmer) and i said no then in recent days only i realised it’s a device hahaahaha
im very thankful to tjmotter thank you tj

For sure he is great, he is helping me as well, though we are a bit stuck now, with my receiver.

Hello, how do you solved the problem. The update stop at dsp 70% with the las update and at dsp 90% with an old one. If a make a factory reset i can go to setup and see everything, but no sound any where.
